Possibilities for a Senior Citizens Home

Learn more about some of the buildings that could serve as the future headquarters of the COMPANION senior citizens community in Béjar.

Old textile factory in Béjar

The first is an old textile factory. It has a remodeled warehouse of 676 square meter (almost 7,300 square feet)  on two floors and equipped with heating. From its many windows you can see our snow-covered mountains, and right in front of what would possibly be six apartments for the elderly are the cascading waters of the Río de Hombre River. You can see and hear the water running over the stones of the river. What a blessing. Behind the building there is a very large plot of land with terraces and trees and full of granite stone, which will force us to put a lot of work and imagination to turn this land into a garden, a fruitful orchard or a flower business.

With God's help it would be possible. He will have the final say whether or not this building will be a home for the senior citizens of COMPANION in Béjar.

We would need € 150,000 ($165,000) to buy it.

Former nursing home 15 minutes from Béjar

The second possibility is a former nursing home. It has 7000 square meters (75,000 square feet). This building complex has a completely renovated part that could be put to use for the first COMPANION apartments and a part in disrepair that was the typical nursing home of the 1950’s in Spain. But this site offers many possibilities, perhaps for people leaving hospitals after a stroke, an operation or replacement surgery.  It has a courtyard and is situated in a small but pretty town 15 minutes by car from the Béjar Church.

We would need € 400,000 ($435,000) to buy it.

Rural tourism center between Béjar and Salamanca

The third possibility is a rural tourism center halfway between Béjar and Salamanca. Made of stone it has 13 completely finished apartments, a complete house, a very large dining room and a multipurpose room. The complex is furnished with heating, a kitchen and a garage. There is also a yard around the apartments.  This place would be perfect except for the fact that the apartments are two floors. It would take the ingenuity of an architect to turn them into something practical and useful because of the difficulty of climbing stairs for elderly people. All would be possible with the help of God.

We would need € 300,000 ($328,000) to buy it.
